On Having Visions of Amitabha

In this life, it is as if I am facing a wall
Made of all the dust which has covered my eyes
Lifetime after lifetime.
These particles of passions, hatreds and fixations,
Keep me from seeing all that is sacred and holy.
Amitabha Buddha, I know you are on the other side
But I long to see you, here, in person.

If I had been kinder,
If I had loved more in all of these lives I have lived
I might be having real glimpses of you,
Visions of you in your full radiance in the Pure Land.
Unfortunately, my cataract eyes cannot see
All that I believe.
So I fill my mind with your name
And let it carry me along, Amitabha,
Until, someday, there you will be!
